If you’re planning to apply for exchange in Trimester 2027, then time is running out!
You’ll need to first book an initial exchange appointment with Student Central to discuss your eligibility and outgoing study plan before the deadline of Friday 12 June 2026, if you haven’t already. Book now while you still have time!

Once you’ve attended your appointment, you’ll need to apply through the Deakin Abroad application portal before Wednesday 15 July 2026.
New Colombo Plan semester grants

Thea’s experience
Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science student, Thea Pozzebon, studied a trimester abroad in Japan at Kansai Gaidai University in 2025.
It has been my dream for years to go to Japan … and this experience was everything I wished for and more. The culture was just so different I loved it! I lived in Hirakata, the outskirts of the main city areas between Osaka and Kyoto. To be living there I was very lucky, it wasn’t as crowded as city areas and everything was so close to each other, you even saw workers sweeping the streets and pathways!
Thea also had the opportunity to enjoy lots of experiences and culture of the area outside of studying.
I visited many temples and shrines, went on a lot of walks, and did a lot of shopping!
Other study abroad opportunities
International Perspectives on Health and Social Development Fiji
If you’re studying an eligible Faculty of Health course, applications are now open for International Perspectives in Health and Social Development to Fiji in Trimester 3 2026.
You will undertake a two-week social impact program on a collaborative and interdisciplinary health program, with a particular focus on human health and environmental sustainability. The program will be based at Barefoot Manta Island (Drawaqa Island) and undertake work both there and in the communities of Mau-ira and Kese, situated on the neighbouring Naviti Island.
Some of the projects past students have completed include community analysis/needs assessment, mapping of community health infrastructure, engaging with local community members and leaders about health needs and priorities, undertaking data collection related to health issues, planning and delivering community health education workshops and initiatives.
