Can you survive without a mouse? Try the No Mouse in the House challenge
On Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Thursday 21 May, we invite you to join students and staff across Deakin’s community in taking the No Mouse in the House challenge.
Join us anytime between 11am – 12pm midday at any of our campus libraries to learn something new and help raise awareness around the importance of digital accessibility.
What is digital accessibility?
Digital accessibility means designing websites, apps, and online content so everyone can use them. It ensures all users, whether they require keyboard navigation, screen readers, captions, or other assistive tools can access and interact with digital content effectively. When content is accessible it creates a clearer, usable and more engaging experience for everyone!
No Mouse in the House challenge
During No Mouse in the House, participants will complete a short computer task using only keyboard navigation without a mouse, trackpad or touch screen. This activity will teach you some keyboard shortcuts and build understanding of the experiences of keyboard navigating users.
What to expect
- A dedicated space will be set up in each campus library where students can complete keyboard-only challenges and learn more about digital accessibility!
- Use the library’s computers or bring your own. Both PC and Macs are welcome.
- $5 café vouchers for the first 50 students who complete the challenge!
This event is a collaboration between Deakin Accessibility Champions x Inclusive Education.
