🏃♀️From campus to courtside: Amanda’s story
For Burwood student Amanda Inglis, attending a Vixens game was more than just a day out – it was a reminder of how energising live sport can be.
Now in her third year studying a double degree in Business (Sport Management) and Exercise & Sport Science, Amanda is deeply involved in sport, from coaching to playing socially. But despite her love for the game, she had never experienced netball live before. That was until she scored free tickets from DUSA Sport!
“I had never been to a live netball game, so I was super excited… arriving at the game I instantly felt the excitement and passion of all the fans in the arena. My favourite moment was the Vixens coming back after half-time to win by 11 points. It was so fun seeing everyone dancing during the breaks and families coming together for a special day out.”
Sharing the experience made it even more meaningful.
“I went with one of my netball teammates – we play social netball together, so she was the obvious choice! Even though I’ve played since primary school, this was my first live game. It made me realise how much support there is for netball and the Vixens, from people of all ages. Now that I’ve been, I’d love to go more often.”
For Amanda, the experience was also a reminder that staying active doesn’t have to be complicated.
“It reminded me how fun it is to play a game with a good group of friends, and how easy it can be to just grab a ball and head to a nearby court. My favourite ways to stay active while studying are going for walks with friends and my dog, and playing social netball.”
Supporting women’s sport is another reason the experience stood out.
“It means a lot to support women’s sport. I coach young girls, and I see every day how important it is for them to have female role models. Sports like netball deserve more attention than they get. Jo Weston is my favourite player — it was awesome to see her still out there playing.”
If you’ve never been to a game before, Amanda has a simple message:
“I think it’s one of those things you just have to experience live at least once… if you’ve never gone before, why not? Go and support a Melbourne team and try something new!”
Amanda summed up the day in three words: exciting, thrilling and energetic.
