Feel informed, feel confident: You CAN Ask That

How confident do you feel about your sexual health right now? Let’s be honest – sexual health isn’t always the easiest topic to bring up. You might have questions, feel unsure where to look, or just not know who to ask. That’s completely normal.

Sexual health is about more than just safe sex, preventing STIs or choosing contraception. It’s about feeling informed, safe and confident in your choices – whatever they may be.

You CAN Ask That is here to support that, making it easier to explore your questions and access information you can trust, without judgement or awkwardness.

Real questions. Real answers.

As part of Deakin’s Student Health Promotion Plan 2023–2025, and in partnership with Sexual Health Victoria, we created You CAN Ask That – a no-filter video series where nothing is off-limits.

Hosted by Sexual Health Educator Chrissy Keenan, the series explores:

Here’s a sneak peek of one of the videos – and you can catch the full series plus more helpful resources on the You CAN Ask That webpage.

Come along to our pop-up events to test your knowledge or just have a chat

How much do you actually know when it comes to sexual health? Put your knowledge to the test at our interactive You CAN Ask That pop-up events happening during DUSA’s Self-Care Week.

Jump into our Q&A game, bust some myths, and score a free sexual health pack (plus a few fun extras). Whether you’re a trivia master or just curious, you’ll learn something new, have a laugh and walk away with goodies that support your wellbeing.

Come find us on campus:

During the week, you’ll also have the chance to submit your own questions – either via Instagram or anonymously through a QR code at the pop-ups. A nurse will answer them, and we’ll share responses on the @deakinlife Instagram after the events, so everyone can learn from real student questions.

Ask a Deakin nurse (anytime)

Do you have more questions about sexual health? You can ask that.

Whether it’s about contraception, STIs, pregnancy or your general health, you can email askanurse@deakin.edu.au for free, confidential advice from a Deakin nurse. No question is too small or awkward – and there’s no need to book an appointment.

Can’t make it to campus?

No worries! The You CAN Ask That webpage is packed with videos, tips and links to free, confidential services at Deakin and beyond. Whether you’re interested in learning something new or revisiting the basics, there’s no wrong time to prioritise your sexual health.

Sexual health doesn’t need to be taboo or tricky. With the right info, you can feel good about the choices you make and confident in your knowledge. Let’s make talking about it feel a whole lot easier.
