Harmony Day branding

20 March 2026

Happy Harmony Day: check out your global playlist now!

Tomorrow is national Harmony Day (Saturday 21 March) – part of the annual Harmony Week (Monday 16–Sunday 22 March 2026) during which we reflect on and celebrate our diversity.

Australia is pretty special: we’re home to the world’s oldest continuous living cultures as well as people from more than 200 countries, with more than eight million people in Australia being born overseas. That makes us one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse populations in the world.

And thinking beyond just cultural differences, Harmony Day and the overarching Harmony Week is all about embracing inclusiveness and a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter what your background may be. It’s a nationwide celebration of respect for all of us who call Australia home.

Likewise at Deakin, we all belong. We are proud of our diverse community, and we value the different perspectives each of us bring to the University.

Fusion Festival

This year we embraced Harmony Week with Fusion Festival on our Burwood and Waurn ponds campus. Fusion Festival celebrates the richness of our diverse cultures, faiths and perspectives, bringing our community together through story‑telling, music, dance, food, art and creative expression. The festival reflects our commitment to belonging, wellbeing and safety, aligning with Harmony Week as a time to honour inclusion and the strength of our multicultural community. It also supports our Indigenous Strategy through meaningful recognition of First Nations stories, cultures and truth‑telling.

We recently asked you to help us create a Fusion Festival Global Playlist that showcases the range of cultures, influences and backgrounds that make up our Deakin community. And did you deliver! You can download the playlist here via Spotify for all your study and party needs.
