Have you set up your digital essentials for T1 yet? Try this handy checklist

Welcome to Trimester 1/Semester 1! With classes starting soon, it’s important to have your digital workspace ready so everything runs smoothly. Use this checklist to get set up — and know where to get help if you need it.

Tick iconOrganise your laptop or device

You’ll need to bring your own device or laptop for all learning experiences and study on campus.

Make sure your device meets Deakin’s minimum computing requirements so you can connect to Wi‑Fi, access CloudDeakin and use tools like Microsoft 365.

If you’re experiencing financial hardship, support is available. Explore financial support or contact Student Central for advice.

Tick iconActivate your Deakin IT account

Haven’t activated your account yet? Start here: Activating your Deakin University IT account.

You’ll be issued a Deakin username (e.g. S00001234), set a password, and be prompted to set up Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA). This account gives you access to wi‑fi, CloudDeakin, StudentConnect and more.

If you already have an account but can’t log in, get help through this troubleshooting guide.

Tick iconStay secure online with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

All student accounts must have MFA enabled. MFA protects your account by requiring you to confirm your identity through an app.

Please note: DUO will be decommissioned in 2026, so it’s worth switching early.

Tick icon Connect to Deakin wi-fi

When you arrive on campus, connect to eduroam, Deakin’s secure wi‑fi network. Here’s how to connect.

If you’ve connected before but it isn’t working, simply ‘forget’ the network and reconnect.

Remember that you can use eduroam to securely jump online – for free – at hundreds of other educational institutions across the globe.

Tick iconInstall Microsoft Office and free software

All Deakin students can install Microsoft Office 365 for free — including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook.

You can also download additional study‑related software from the Deakin Software Library.

Need specialised software? Access it anywhere, on any device, with Apps and Desktops Anywhere (ADA).

We recommend installing the Microsoft Outlook app on your Windows, MacOS, Android or iOS devices and linking your Deakin account, so you can easily access your calendar or email wherever you go.

Tick iconAdd your Deakin email to your preferred mail app

If you prefer another app instead of Outlook, you can still add your student email to your chosen email app (e.g. IOS Mail, Android Mail and Windows Mail). Now you to view important Deakin emails alongside your regular emails.

Tick iconPrepare to print on campus

To use Deakin’s on‑campus printers, install PaperCut Mobility Client via the Software Library (search printing). You can learn more on the Student printing webpage.
