Sport is one of the best things you can try at Deakin. Apart from the obvious physical benefits, participating in one of our many team or individual activities and events is a great way to meet other students, forget about study for a while and have heaps of fun!
Ready to join the Deakin Dragons?
The Deakin Dragons represent the University and compete against other universities in inter-varsity state and national events including the UniSport Nationals (a flagship multi-sport event to be held in Perth, Western Australia this year). There are also several standalone championships that take place throughout the year in a range of team and individual sports. Participating in the UniSport Nationals events provides a great opportunity for you to represent Deakin while travelling and connecting with your fellow student athletes.
Registration
If you’re a student at Deakin University in 2026, you’re eligible to compete for the Deakin Dragons. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Deakin community in representing your university on a national stage. Registrations will be through a dual registration process.
Triathlon – 19 April 2026
In 2026, we’re back in Wollongong, New South Wales for the UniSport Nationals – Triathlon. The event is on Sunday 19 April 2026 and will be contested in both men’s and women’s events in Sprint and Standard (Olympic) distances and Para Triathlon events.

All travel and accommodation are arranged and paid by the student.
Registration
Step 1: Read the information pack and fill out the Deakin Dragons Triathlon form.
Step 2: Register via the Wollongong Triathlon website. Make sure you check the 2026 UniSport Nationals Triathlon box when registering and enter your university name and student number to ensure your results count. Keep your registration ID.
Step 3: Register your attendance with UniSport to make sure your results count towards Deakin’s point score!
Athletics – Wednesday 22–Friday 24 April 2026
Join us on the Gold Coast, Queensland for National UniSport Championship Athletics. Men’s, women’s and multi-class events will be offered at this event, held at the Gold Coast Performance Centre.
Costs
- DUSA Payment: $250 – $300 includes 4 nights share accommodation, insurance, off-field uniform, and competing uniform (if necessary). Accommodation for the team will be from 21–25 April 2026 at the event venue.
- UniSport Payment: $159-$234 depending on how early you complete your registration.
- Travel costs: All travel is arranged and paid for by the student.
- Extras: All incidentals and meals (outside of team dinners) are at the students’ expense.
Registration
Step 1: Read the Deakin Athletics Information pack and the UniSport Australia qualifying standards.
Step 2: Fill out the Deakin Dragons Athletics form before the recruitment close date, Friday 20 February 2026. The team manager will be in touch if you meet the qualification standards and selection guidelines.
Swimming – Friday 15–Sunday 17 May 2026
In 2026, swimming will be contested in men’s and women’s events at Sydney Olympic Park, NSW, multi-class events will also be offered. So if you’re keen to get in the pool, register your interest today!
Costs
- DUSA Payment: $350 includes 4 nights share accommodation (14-18 May 2026 at Holiday Inn Parramatta), insurance, off-field uniform. Swimsuit included for an additional fee.
- UniSport Payment: Approx. $28.50 per event entered.
- Travel costs: All travel is arranged and paid by the student.
- Extras: All incidentals and meals (outside of team dinners) are at the students’ expense.
Registration
Step 1: Read the Deakin Swimming Information pack and the UniSport Australia qualifying standards.
Step 2: Fill out the Deakin Dragons Swimming form before the recruitment close date, Wednesday 18 March 2026. The team manager will be in touch if you meet the qualification standards and selection guidelines.
