Support for students concerned or impacted by world events

We acknowledge the many diverse experiences and needs of students in our community, including those with personal and family connections across the world.

When something happens overseas, it can still feel very close to home.

We are part of a connected global network, and we know that events overseas often affect individuals in very real and personal ways.

At Deakin, we value our diversity, embrace difference and nurture a connected, safe and respectful community.

We are committed to supporting all students who may be affected by world events.

If world events are impacting you and you need support or assistance; you have access to a range of services, resources and support.

Where to get support

Australian Campuses

If you’re located in Australia, you can access the following services:

During such a difficult time, it’s vital that you look after your physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Student Central

Student Central can give you tailored advice, referrals and support. Ask about your course requirements and other enrolment needs, including course and unit advice, full-time and part-time study options, and intermission and visa compliance advice.

Safer Community

Safer Community is a free, confidential support service for those who experience concerning, threatening, inappropriate or uncomfortable behaviour.

Call the Safer Community team on 9244 3734. They are available Monday–Friday, 9am–4pm. You can also email safercommunity@deakin.edu.au.

Academic and study support

We want to help all students achieve their study outcomes and goals. A range of help is available through our Study Support resources and programs.

If you need more time to complete any assessment tasks or are worried about your upcoming end-of-unit assessments, the first step is to contact your relevant Unit Chair, who can discuss assessment extensions or special consideration options.

Support for international students

If you need additional help, Student Central can assess your situation and refer you to an International Student Support Officer to connect you with other key services at Deakin or in the community.

Living away from friends, family, and everything that’s familiar isn’t always easy. But it’s important that you don’t neglect your health and wellbeing. For more information about supports available visit the International student wellbeing website.
