Looking for food on campus? Here’s what’s open now
As we head into the new year and prepare for Trimester 1, you may have noticed some changes to food and beverage options across Deakin’s campuses.
While some food outlets have closed, there are still plenty of ways to grab snacks, meals and coffee — with pop‑ups, cafés and 24/7 Micro Marts available, and more reopening throughout January and early February.
Here’s a campus‑by‑campus guide to what’s open now and what’s coming soon.
24/7 Micro Marts: always open
If you’re studying late, on campus outside standard café hours, or just need a quick snack, Deakin’s Micro Marts are ready whenever you are.
These self‑serve, cashless stores are open 24/7 and stocked with:
- snacks
- drinks
- ready‑to‑eat meals
- study‑fuel essentials

- Waurn Ponds (Buildings NA and JC/library)
- Burwood (Building LE)
Just tap, grab and go.
Flying Turtle
These robotic barista machines are available 24/7 – offering over 180 customisable drinks including coffee, tea, smoothies and protein shakes.

Waurn Ponds campus
While some outlets have closed, there are still convenient grab‑and‑go options available at Waurn Ponds, with more to follow as Trimester 1 approaches.
What’s happening
- Library Café POP‑UP (Building JC) opening 12–27 January, 8am–2pm with grab‑and‑go food available.
- Waurn Ponds Pantry (Building JB, level 1) opening 28 January, 8am–4pm also with grab‑and‑go food.
Coming soon
- There will be an extended food offering at the Waurn Ponds Pantry on Monday 2 February fuelling you up start of Trimester 1.
Burwood campus
Burwood students will see a mix of early pop‑ups, reopened cafés and new outlet options.
January openings
- Sushi 123 – open (usual trading hours)
- Little Bang – re-opens 19 January
- Caffeine – Opens 19 January
February openings
- Burwood Pantry – opens 2 February, 8am–4pm
- The Social – opens 16 February, 8am–4pm (previously Corner Cafe)
Waterfront campus
At Waterfront, food access will be supported through the re-opening of the Waterfront Pantry on Monday 12 January.
Warrnambool campus
- Hopkins River Cafe – formerly Brother Fox Cafe (usual trading hours)
Making campus food work for you
While Deakin reviews and refreshes its food outlets, students can continue to access:
- 24/7 Micro Marts and pop‑ups
- select cafés reopening through January
- expanded offerings for the start of Trimester 1
