It’s a wrap on the 2025 UniSport Nationals – held from 27 September to 3 October on the Gold Coast – and our Deakin Dragons have returned with plenty to celebrate.
This year, the Dragons produced some outstanding results across a variety of sports, highlighted by three gold medal victories. The Women’s Basketball Division 1 team were dominant throughout the tournament going undefeated for the week and capping off their campaign with a commanding 93–59 win against Monash University in the final. Their strength, precision and teamwork ensured Deakin stood at the very top of the podium.
The Men’s Basketball Division 2 team also struck gold in thrilling fashion, defeating Swinburne University in a hard-fought contest. The Dragons held their composure under pressure to claim a 75–68 victory in the final, showcasing resilience and determination.
Adding to the gold medal tally, the Men’s Tennis Division 2 team secured a decisive 3–0 win against the University of New South Wales in their final. Their skill and focus throughout the competition delivered a well-deserved championship title.
Honourable mentions must go to our Taekwondo athlete, who achieved a silver medal in Poomsae and another silver medal in Kyorugi, finishing ninth overall in the men’s category. The Women’s Tennis Division 1 team also impressed with a strong campaign that earned them a bronze medal, while the Mixed Beach Volleyball Division 2 team battled through tough opposition to take home a well-earned bronze.
Beyond the medal count, our Dragons displayed courage and sportsmanship across all competitions, with commendable efforts in badminton, futsal, netball, touch football, ultimate, volleyball, surfing and cycling. Every athlete who wore the Deakin colours gave their all and contributed to a campaign that reflected the true spirit of university sport.
We extend our thanks to all the players, coaches and support staff whose energy and commitment made this year’s Nationals such a success. Congratulations once again to our Deakin Dragons on a remarkable week of competition — we’re already looking forward to building on this momentum in 2026.
