Special artwork, ‘Finding Deakin’ needs your help. Submit a word to describe your Deakin experience

As one of the fifty artworks selected in the upcoming Deakin Face to Face Revisited exhibition, Michelle Jeavons’ artwork titled, ‘Finding Deakin’ needs your help.

Deakin University Art Collection and Galleries staff, who recently reviewed and selected fifty successful artwork ideas for the Face to Face Revisited exhibition, said they were impressed by the variety, depth and creative ideas proposed for inclusion in the exhibition. The successful artists came from all areas of Deakin – students, operational teams, professional staff, academics and researchers.

The Face to Face Revisited exhibition, displaying 50 new artworks inspired by the 50 Years of Collecting Exhibition, opens at the Deakin University Art Gallery on 22 October and runs through to 12 December 2025.

‘I was super excited and humbled when I heard my artwork idea was accepted,’ Michelle Jeavons, Communications Coordinator, Institute for Health Transformation said. ‘And now I need everyone’s help to make it happen’.

Submit your word

Michelle’s artwork concept is to assemble a large find a word puzzle constructed of 2500 Scrabble tiles. Inspired by the participatory concept of Gosia Wlodarczak’s, Found in translation, Michelle is looking to include 50 words provided by Deakin students and staff to express their Deakin experience.

To contribute to Michelle’s artwork, you are invited to submit a word via a survey (link below) in response to either of the following questions.

• What has been your experience at Deakin University?
• What does Deakin University mean to you?

The survey will closes 31 July 2025, and you can submit as many words as you like. If you’re on campus at Burwood, you can submit your word/s in person at the collection box located in the Deakin University Art Gallery during the month of July 2025.
