Join Tree Planting Day at Waurn Ponds Campus for a blooming good time
Wednesday 2 July is Tree Planting Day at Waurn Ponds and we invite you to help dig deep for our budding flora and fauna.
Join us in nature for some fresh air alongside great people to establish the next generation of plants on our Waurn Ponds Campus. We have been fortunate to secure funding through the Victorian Government’s Green Links grants for this year’s planting and our aim is to establish around 20,000 local Indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees.
Over the last 50 years, the Deakin community of staff and students has helped convert the bare, agricultural landscape at Waurn Ponds into the lush campus environment we enjoy today. This year, we welcome you to again support our 2025 and 2030 commitments – to enhance biodiversity in priority locations – and ensure Deakin is playing its part in the transition to a more sustainable world.
This year, planting will take place along Waurn Ponds Creek, with planting efforts contributing to improved creek health and additional habitat for two of our focal species at the Waurn Ponds Campus, the Swift Parrot and Yarra Pygmy Perch.
