Four Business students will be selected to attend the University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) set to take place in Malaysia in August 2025.

Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and have a current passport at the time of the June interview, which is valid for travel and entry to Malaysia in August 2025.

Last year, our students had the opportunity to participate in community projects, attend workshops, network and listen to inspirational speakers. One of our students, Bhavya Bagaria, reflected on the impact of the symposium, stating, ‘This gathering brought together dynamic leaders and scholars, all united by a shared goal to be the change in our communities and beyond.’

Another student, Vaish Martha, commented on their deeper understanding of service to others, stating, ‘service is not just about helping—it’s about creating lasting change and fostering empathy. This experience highlighted the importance of appreciating diversity, navigating challenges, and maintaining a positive outlook.’

National Leadership Forum

Where: Canberra, Australia

When: Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 September 2025

Number of places available: two students

Held at Australia Parliament House, this forum is a melting pot of ideas where students hear from parliamentarians, executives, and local community leaders about what leadership means to them. Two students will be selected to attend.

Candidates must be aged between 18 and 26 at the time of the conference as per the forum’s requirements.

For 2024 attendee Paul Ting, the experience was a ‘transformative deep dive into what leadership truly means.’ He reflected, ‘Community and connection were the biggest lessons for me. I walked away with a better understanding of how to lead by example, inspire others, and stay true to my values even in challenging circumstances’.

Who can apply?

If you’re a current Business student (both undergraduate and postgraduate considered) who has completed at least 25% of your course with a WAM of 75+, we encourage you to apply. Please ensure you are available for a Zoom Selection Interview on Thursday 19 June or Friday 20 June.

Your costs for flights, conference registration and twin share accommodation will be covered by the Deakin Business School. You’ll need to cover other costs such as meals, travel to and from the airport and incidentals not covered by the conference.
