Become a Business and Law Mentor in T2 2025 and give back to your community!
Want to make more friends, grow your network and give back to the Business and Law community in 2025? Apply now to become a Business and Law Peer Mentor.
We’d love you to join up—you just need to be a current Business and Law student who has successfully completed four units with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 60.
Why should I become a mentor?
Peer mentors play a very important role in helping new Business and Law students settle into life at Deakin. As a peer mentor, you’ll also:
- extend your communication, cultural awareness and creative problem-solving skills
- develop leadership experience, and workplace-ready skills and behaviours
- support and guide new students and
- expand your professional and social network.
These qualities will give you a highly competitive edge which employers are looking for.
Experienced mentor Sharon Chu describes mentorship as ‘a chance to share your experiences and truly make a difference for incoming students. You get to forge new friendships, participate in exciting events organized by the BL Mentor Program Team, and develop valuable skills throughout the journey’. Her favourite moment as a mentor has been ‘assisting new students during their transition to Deakin University. Being able to make a positive impact on their journey is incredibly fulfilling’.
What’s involved?
Across the first five weeks of Trimester 2, you will support a small group of new students with another mentor. Meetings are a blend of online or on campus and include an the opportunity to meet other students participating in the program. New mentors attend a training session to ensure they are equipped with the necessary information and it’s a great way to meet your peers.
Eligible students may also apply for the $700 Volunteer Mentor Support scheme. Hear from peer mentor Klay about how the scheme enhanced their experience as a faculty peer mentor.
Volunteer Mentor Awards
We celebrate each trimester with an awards ceremony to acknowledge our Outstanding Mentors who are nominated by their peers and program staff. All mentors also receive a Certificate of Recognition—great for your resume!
Featured below are our Trimester 1 2025 Volunteer Mentor Awards recipients who were recognised for their outstanding contribution. Congratulations to all the award winners, and thank you to all the mentors and to the new students who make the program what it is.
