Feeling overwhelmed or lost? Ask Wellbeing Live Chat for answers to your wellbeing questions
Do you feel overwhelmed in your studies at the moment? Are pressures from your end-of-unit assessments or personal problems making it hard to focus? It’s important to look after yourself and your wellbeing, which will also help with your Uni work.
The last month of a study period is often the most stressful, so to help out we’re trialling Wellbeing Live Chat during the months of May and September.
Wellbeing Live Chat
Wellbeing Live Chat is a free and anonymous service to ask any questions you have about your emotional wellbeing. For instance, you might ask how to manage your stress or anxiety, how to stop procrastination, how to reduce loneliness or how to improve your relationships.
You will then receive an answer in real time from a Deakin mental health professional.
When and where will Wellbeing Live Chat be available?
You can access Wellbeing Live Chat during the months of May and September 2025, each week from Monday to Friday between the hours of 11am to 1pm AEST and then 2 to 4pm AEST.
When active, the Wellbeing Live Chat will become accessible on the Wellbeing Live Chat webpage. Send your question and you’ll receive a response promptly.
Outside of Wellbeing Live Chat availability
If you have questions when the Wellbeing Live Chat is not available, then you can still submit your question through Ask Counselling.
With Ask Counselling, a response to your question will then be published by one of our Deakin counsellors within 72 hours. The posts are anonymously published, so no one will know it’s from you. You will need to log back into Ask Counselling to locate your question and answer.
You can also browse the answers to other students’ questions by topic to see if anyone else has asked anything similar and so you can know that you are not alone in what you’re experiencing.
Want to talk one-on-one?
Wellbeing Live Chat and Ask Counselling aren’t intended to replace personal counselling.
- If you’re located in Australia and want to speak to a professional psychologist or social worker in greater depth, we recommend you book an appointment with a CAPS counsellor for free, confidential and personalised counselling. If you need emotional support after-hours, between 5pm–9am on weekdays or 24 hours across weekends, public holidays and University shutdown, call our After-Hours Mental Health Support line on 1300 239 002 or text 0485 829 309.
- If you’re a GIFT City campus student, you can find out more about booking an appointment with a counsellor on the GIFT City Counselling webpage.
If you need urgent help, contact an emergency service
Please note that neither Wellbeing Live Chat nor Ask Counselling are 24-hour crisis services. You are not alone and there is professional help available to you at all times.
- If you’re located in Australia and need immediate emergency help, you should contact Lifeline (13 11 14) or SuicideLine (1300 651 251), 13YARN for First Nations peoples (13 9276), 1800Respect (1800 737 732) for domestic/family and sexual violence counselling, straight away. They’re available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
