In celebration of Deakin’s 50th anniversary, the Library is running a program of exhibitions and events reflecting Deakin’s journey and achievements in research, distance education and their impact on the community.
Exhibitions
Rotating between Burwood, Waurn Ponds and Waterfront campuses throughout 2025, each exhibition features historical materials and unearthed stories from the University Archives and beyond. These are accompanied by some complimentary panel discussions, showcases and tours.
Bridging the Distance: Deakin’s Leadership in Distance Education highlights the University’s pioneering role in expanding access to education through off-campus study, beginning with the Deakin University Act 1974. This initiative empowered regional, remote and working students to pursue education on their terms, setting a precedent for social equity in higher education.
Shaping the Future: Deakin’s Legacy of Research showcases significant research projects across disciplines that have driven innovation and made meaningful contributions to society. These stories reflect Deakin’s ability to address real-world challenges through groundbreaking research.
Beyond Our Walls: Deakin’s Community Impact celebrates the University’s engagement with local and global communities alike, and its focus on alumni achievements, partnerships and beyond. The exhibition highlights Deakin’s community engagement initiatives that foster education and research.
