2024 Deakin Sport Award winners

1 November 2024

Congratulations to Deakin’s 2024 Sport Awards winners!

The 2024 Deakin Sport Awards were held on Thursday 31 October 2024 at Deakin Downtown, where we celebrated the admirable energy, teamwork and achievements of our elite student-athletes throughout the year.

Fourteen students from the Elite Athlete Program represented Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games – the second most current students of any Australian university. They were joined by five Deakin University alum, representing Australia in a range of sports including Athletics, 3×3 Basketball, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Rowing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Triathlon and Water Polo. Several students competed in World Cups and World Championships, and there were fantastic results at National Championships and national competitions throughout the year.

At the UniSport Nationals and UniSport National Championships, the Deakin Dragons again performed strongly. The results included one silver medal and four bronze medals across team events, and some outstanding individual performances including three gold medals, two silver medals and five bronze medals from Athletics, Rowing and Swimming. More than 120 students represented Deakin University at the UniSport Nationals in Canberra, and Deakin teams were represented at standalone UniSport National Championships including Athletics, 3×3 Basketball, Distance Running, Surfing, Swimming and Indigenous Nationals, which resulted in Deakin University finishing 23rd out of 43 universities in the 2024 UniSport Nationals Overall Champion Pennant Tally.

A highlight of the ceremony was also having a number of 2024 Paris Olympians and Paralympians in the room as we recognised their outstanding achievements in Paris.

Congratulations to all of our 2024 winners!
