Hear Simon Griffiths, CEO of Who Gives A Crap, give the 2024 Brookes Oration
The Brookes Oration, held annually, was established in 2006 to encourage thoughtful debate about the contribution of corporate Australia in the global community.
We invite you to join us for this year’s oration, ‘Lessons from a Purpose-Led Business’, delivered by Simon Griffiths—entrepreneur, co-founder and CEO of Australian toilet paper company, Who Gives A Crap.
About the speaker
Driven by a passion to use business to give back, Simon had the idea to start a toilet paper company that builds toilets and improves sanitation in the developing world.
Simon’s personal motto is that doing good is good for business and he’s convinced that Who Gives A Crap would not have been able to achieve the scale that it has if it did not give away 50% of its profits.
Since launching, Who Gives A Crap has tripled in size year-on-year, is now available in nearly 40 countries and has donated over $12 million to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) partners.
Recognised for its positive environmental and social impact, Who Gives A Crap produces toilet paper from 100% recycled paper or bamboo, and all its products are plastic-free. It has sold enough product to have prevented more than 1,000,000 trees from being cut down to make toilet paper.
Simon also attributes Who Gives A Crap’s success to attracting the best talent and taking organisational culture seriously from the beginning, as culture can be hard to correct.
