Deakin elite-athlete student and Olympian Rhydian Cowley

14 August 2024

Congrats to the students and alumni who represented Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics!

The 2024 Olympic Games (26 July–11 August) has come to an end with the spectacular closing ceremony in Paris over the weekend – congratulations to our participating Deakin elite-athlete students and alumni who did us proud during the Games!

We also send a big congratulations to past student Rhydian Cowley (pictured) who was awarded a bronze medal for his performance in the Mixed Relay Marathon Race Walk last week! Rhydian, who holds a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin, set off with his team against the stunning backdrop of the Eiffel Tower and a crowd of thousands, and was thrilled to be ultimately bringing home a medal.

‘I can’t quite believe it,’ he said following his win in Paris, his third time representing Australia at an Olympic Games.

Well done to Rhydian and all the athletes who wore the green and gold in Paris! You can see all the final results for your fellow students and alumni who took part in the 2024 Olympic Games via the Deakin website

We now turn our sights to the 2024 Paralympic Games, which will be running from 28 August–8 September in Paris – stay tuned for more info!
