Learn more about our local wildlife and the Geelong Gardens for Wildlife Program
Did you know that Deakin is taking a focal species approach to biodiversity restoration on its campuses? This means we’re creating habitats to attract and protect threatened species including the Swift Parrot, Growling Grass Frog and Yarra Pygmy Perch.
We’re lucky our campuses play host to a myriad of wildlife but there are things we can all do in our own backyards to support local wildlife too.
Garden Guides
In partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, the Geelong Gardens for Wildlife (G4W) program is looking to train volunteer Garden Guides to provide residents in the Geelong area with individual advice on how to attract native fauna to their gardens.
Garden Guides help people to create habitats to attract native wildlife to their backyards. You don’t have to be an expert to get involved – all you need is a willingness to learn, engage with others and volunteer your time. This is a great opportunity to further develop your own knowledge and meet people who share your love of wildlife and nature.
The G4W team is also looking for volunteers with social media skills to help engage the community and promote the program.
