The 2024 Paris Olympics start this week! Meet the Deakin students representing Australia
We can’t wait to see several Deakin elite-athlete students step up to represent Australia in the 2024 Olympic Games (26 July–11 August) and Paralympic Games (28 August–8 September) in Paris this year, beginning with the Olympic opening ceremony later this week.
Here are your fellow students and alumni who will be taking part in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Abbey Caldwell – Athletics
A current Bachelor of Health Sciences student at Deakin, Abbey will be competing in the Women’s 800m event. Learn more about Abbey
Aislin Jones – Shooting
Bachelor of Commerce student Aislin will compete in the Women’s Skeet event in Paris, her second Olympics. Learn more about Aislin
Alex Viney – Para-rowing
Alex is currently studying a Master of Business (Sport Management) and will compete in the PR3 Mixed Cox Four event in Paris. Learn more about Alex
Blake Edwards – Water Polo
Past student Blake holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin and will be competing in the Men’s Water Polo event. Learn more about Blake
Brooke Buschkuehl (nee Stratton) – Athletics
Alum Brooke, who completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences at Deakin, will compete in the Women’s Long Jump event in Paris. Learn more about Brooke
Emily Whitehead – Gymnastics
Currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, Emily will compete in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics event. Learn more about Emily

Finn, a current Bachelor of Health Sciences student, will be representing Australia in both singles and doubles Table Tennis events. Learn more about Finn

A Bachelor of Environmental Science (Environmental Management & Sustainability) student, Kate will compete in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. Learn more about Kate

Liam Twomey – Para-triathlon
Currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, Liam will be competing in the Triathlon (PTS4) event. Learn more about Liam
Lucy Stephan – Rowing

Marena Whittle – 3X3 Basketball
Currently a Juris Doctor student, Marena will be playing in the Women’s Basketball 3X3 event in Paris. Learn more about Marena
Nathan Pellissier – Para-table Tennis
Nathan is currently studying a Master of Professional Accounting and Finance, and will be competing in the Men’s Singles MS8 and MT9-10 events. Learn more about Nathan

Rhydian Cowley – Athletics
