Leave the car at home! How to save time and money as you travel to campus
How are you planning to travel to campus this study period?
Driving isn’t the only choice – there’s lots of convenient transport options available that will help to make our campuses more sustainable, and save you money, time and hassle. You’ll also enjoy added benefits like more incidental physical activity and extra time to read, listen to music or just unwind.
Here are some ways to ditch the car and still make it to class!
Public transport
- It’s easiest to get a tram or bus to Burwood but you can also get a train to Box Hill Station and catch a connecting bus from there.
- Both our Geelong campuses are conveniently located near train or bus stops.
- At Warrnambool, buses stop right in Cafeteria Lane, while Sherwood Park Railway Station is on the edge of campus.
Check out Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to plan your journey. If you’re an undergraduate on campus student, you can also save 50% on fares across Victoria.
Geelong intercampus buses
Two dedicated Deakin buses service our Geelong campuses – and they’re completely free! Wi-fi is available on both services, so you can scroll your news feed or study while you travel.
- The Intercampus Bus is a shuttle service between Waterfront and Waurn Ponds. It incorporates a park-and-ride service from the Barwon Valley Activity Centre opposite Kmart Belmont, where free parking is available. You can also park your car for free at Waurn Ponds (use the blue bays in the Park and Go section of Car Park 3) and continue on the bus to Waterfront. The bus runs every 30 minutes, and there’s an additional service between Waterfront and BVAC only. See the full timetable and stop locations.
- The Waterfront Express Bus departs from the Try Boys Basketball Stadium at 501 Ryrie St, East Geelong (near the corner of Portarlington and Boundary Roads), where you can park your car for free. The bus travels directly to the Waterfront on a continuous loop from 7.30am. See the full timetable.
Active transport
Our beautifully green campuses are best experienced on foot or two wheels, so walk or ride if you live close to campus. We have showers, change rooms, lockers and bike hubs available on all campuses.
Still need to drive?
If these other transport options don’t suit your circumstances, parking is available at all our campuses, including accessible parking:
- Burwood: all parking at Burwood is paid permit parking.
- Waurn Ponds: there’s paid permit parking, along with limited free parking in the blue Park and Go bays in Car Park 3, which connect to the intercampus bus.
- Waterfront: all parking at Waterfront is paid permit parking.
- Our new Multideck Carpark at Waterfront Campus is open! Positioned between Brougham Street and Smythe Street, next to Waterfront Student Accommodation, the car park has electric vehicle charging stations, a gym, a yoga studio and an activated laneway which will be used for market stalls and University and public events in future.
- Warrnambool: you can park for free in any of the white bays.

You can share the costs and hassle of driving by carpooling to campus! The Liftango app matches drivers and passengers who share similar journeys to and from Deakin. It’s free to join, and you’ll be rewarded with an easier commute and free parking on our campuses (including in orange bays).
