Get to know your library during orientation
If you’re just starting your studies with Deakin, welcome to your first study period! And if you’ve already commenced your degree but this is your first chance to spend time on campus, we look forward to meeting you!
No matter where you are studying, there are loads of ways you can get to know your library in your first few weeks at uni.
Training sessions: Explore your library
The library is running online ‘Explore your library’ sessions to help new students understand the resources, services and facilities available to them through Deakin Library. These sessions will take place on:
- Wednesday 3 July, 10–11am
- Thursday 4 July, 2–3pm
In this online session, you will learn all you need to know about how the library helps you succeed at Deakin. Our programs, services and activities save you time, provide critical information and enable you to be more effective in your learning and research.
Our library services are available anywhere, anytime. We provide a range of services, including live Library Chat, to ensure study from home is just as easy. Discover the best way to approach your studies by joining us for this library session.
At the end of this session, students will have knowledge and skills to:
- Navigate key parts of the library website.
- Search for digital and print resources.
- Borrow, return and request items.
- Access course materials and subject-specific guides.
Register for one of the above sessions now, as spaces are filling fast!
Join us for a tour
Each campus library is unique – full of group study spaces, comfy seats and powered desks, computers, printers and scanners, book collections and much more. Every day during OWeek between 11am–1pm you can join us for a 15-minute guided tour of your campus library. These tours are a great way for you to get to know the spaces in your library, as well as ask any questions you might have!
You can also take a virtual tour of all four library campuses on our website to see what’s available!
Get your technical setup sorted
From Orientation Week through Week 2, the library’s Student TechAssist service is here to troubleshoot your tech setup. Offering help with issues like connecting to wi-fi and logging into your Deakin account, our student team will be available for walk-up support at the library from 10am–5pm, Monday to Friday.
Watch the ‘Get to know your library’ video
Not sure where to get started? This three minute video provides some of our favourite tricks, tools and ideas to help you navigate your library – both online and on campus.
Attend the library session in your unit
Most units at Deakin have a special session where your librarian will discuss how they can help you be successful at Deakin. They’ll go through specific tips for your subject area, including how to find the best resources for your study and where to go for help. Don’t miss out! If you can’t attend or your unit doesn’t have a library session, you can find the designated librarians for your study area on the library website.
