Student athletes Jakara Anthony and Ellyse Perry celebrate international victories
Congratulations to Deakin elite-athlete students Ellyse Perry and Jakara Anthony on recent international wins in their respective cricket and freestyle mogul skiing events!
Ellyse Perry, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Sport Science student and our Sportsperson of the Year – Female at the 2023 Deakin Sport Awards, helped lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to claim the Women’s Premier League title by eight wickets in India last week.
Ellyse recently became the first ever Australian cricketer, male or female, to hit 6000 runs and take 300 wickets at the international level, with this win further cementing her reputation as the best female player in cricketing history. Ellyse said she was overwhelmed by the result and the enthusiastic response of RCB fans.
‘It’s pretty bonkers to be honest,’ said Ellyse following the match.
‘This is a whole other level for us and women’s cricket. The standard of cricket has been unbelievable – it’s been so much fun to play.’
Also creating a storm this month was Jakara Anthony, who cooly claimed her 14th World Cup moguls win in Italy!
Currently studying a Bachelor of Business at Deakin and roundly considered one of the best female mogul skiers in the world, Jakara clocked seven wins in each of the dual and singles formats at the Chiesa resort event, overall claiming 14 victories from 16 moguls events this season.
