It’s Respect at Uni Week: have fun and keep championing diversity!
At Deakin, we are proud of our diverse community. As part of our overall mission to instil a strong sense of belonging in everyone who studies and works at the University, we value and embrace the different perspectives each of us brings to Deakin.
Join us this Respect at Uni Week (Monday 18–Friday 22 March) as we kick off a fabulous line-up of performances and events to celebrate cultural diversity while promoting the importance of respect, inclusion, and the prevention of sexual harm in our campuses, online spaces, and broader communities.
It is mostly treating everyone with kindness, irrespective of their sexual orientation, religion, caste or gender … and connecting with community as well.
I feel safe and respected when I can use facilities like the queer room on campus and the women’s room.
What makes me feel safe and supported is being asked my pronouns, or when in classes, if we’re doing icebreakers, when pronouns are included in our introductions as well as names.
Watch our 2023 Respect at Uni Week video for more great insights from your fellow students about what it means to feel respected and how you can extend your respect to others. You’ll also have a chance to share what respect means to you at the Respect Day event on your campus – find out more here.
There’s still time to submit your favourite global song!
Deakin is proud to welcome students from more than 120 countries, and this week we’re creating a Global Playlist with your favourite tracks from around the world to celebrate the different cultures we all hail from.
We’re launching the playlist today (Monday 18 March) and you’ll hear it playing across campus during our events (you’ll also be able to download it later).
You’ve still got until 5pm on Friday 22 March to share your favourite song with us and go in the draw to win one of two Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 Instant Cameras with 60 film pack worth $159! Submit your request using the form below and we’ll add it to our Spotify playlist. And wholesome tunes, please: any songs with explicit references or profanity will be excluded from the final playlist!
