International students, enjoy the beach with our free water safety classes
A big part of living in Australia is enjoying our incredible natural attractions. Victoria is home to some of the world’s most beautiful coastlines – but the beach can be dangerous if you don’t have some basic water safety skills.
To become confident in the water and to learn more about Australian conditions, sign up for a free beach fun and water safety skills class.
This session, offered as part of our International Student Connect program, is designed to help you assess risks and make sensible decisions before you go swimming. You will also learn what you should do if you or a friend gets into trouble in the water.
What to bring
- Wear your swimming costume under your clothes, to be ready to swim when we arrive at the beach.
- A towel.
- A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Water and snacks/lunch.
- Clothes to change into after you’ve swam.
What the session will include
- There will be a short presentation on swim safety hosted by Life Saving Victoria.
- You will then participate in activities in the water and on the sand.
- Your belongings, including your phone, will be left in a secure room during this time.
- After the session, you will change out of your wet swimming costume.
If the weather is unsuitable, you’ll complete an indoor program instead.
