International students: start T1 with a free health check and gift!

Welcome to Trimester 1 – we hope you’re excited to begin the new study period! We’re here to help you achieve your academic goals and get the most out of your time at Deakin, which is why we encourage you to take advantage of our on-campus health checks.

They’re available to all international students, regardless of which provider you’re with for your Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) and whether you’re a new or a continuing student. And, best of all, they’re free for you to attend!

Looking after yourself is crucial to your enjoyment and success at uni, and attending a free health check is a great, proactive way to protect your health and wellbeing.

What your free health check includes

You’ll visit one of our Deakin Health and Wellbeing Centres for your health check, which takes just 30 minutes and gives you a quick snapshot of your overall health.

Your consultation will be with a friendly and qualified Bupa nurse (or with a campus nurse in Warrnambool). You’ll have a glucose and blood pressure check and discuss your health and wellbeing. You’ll also receive a record of your personal results including health information and advice specific to your gender and age group.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve had a health check before – we encourage you to book in for one each year. That way, you’ll see how you’re progressing or be able to follow up on any issues.

Free appointments are available throughout the year. If you are unable to find an appointment, check again in one or two weeks’ time as more appointments are made available regularly.

Please ensure you cancel your appointment if you are no longer able to attend.

All students who attend and actively participate in a free health check will be given a gift too. Places will fill up fast, so don’t delay!

You should also check out Deakin’s International student wellbeing webpage, Bupa’s International Community webpage for some great shared stories, resources and advice, and download the DeakinWELLBEING app for a great range of digital health tools.
