Help improve the student experience as a student partner!

Want to gain professional project experience and help our staff improve the student experience for everyone at Deakin, while you’re studying?

Deakin is currently recruiting student partners for a range of 2024 projects relating to particular schools, faculties, topics or challenges facing the University.

Applications for many of these student partner opportunities close Monday 19 February, so apply now!

What are Students as Partners?

Supported through the Office of the Dean of Students, Students as Partners is a centrally run suite of programs designed to support all of our students and staff to experience and engage in meaningful and effective partnership.

You will work in small teams to co-create and co-design alongside staff partners. All projects are guided by Deakin’s equity-first principles, with a focus on improving inclusion, access, retention and the teaching and learning experience for undergraduate and domestic students.

Why should I become a Student Partner?

Students as Partners champions the fact that no one knows the student experience better than students themselves.

We value your expertise in your lived experiences and will empower you to contribute meaningfully to a culture of trust and respect. In these projects, you will be repositioned as co-creators to projects that genuinely make a difference to teaching, learning and service delivery.

You will finish your role with improved skills, project and leadership training, career readiness, something juicy to add to your CV/LinkedIn, and an improved sense of belonging to the university community.

This is an opportunity for you to:

What will it involve?

Student partners are recruited to work at Deakin as HEW3 casual professionals ($40.72/hr) and all projects will have a minimum of 20 hours of work available.

Requirements will vary depending on the project you are assigned to, but you will likely be involved in attending online training and group meetings, collaborating with fellow students and staff, co-facilitate focus groups, co-create recommendations, resources or assessment tasks and co-write project reports. Some projects may require occasional campus attendance.

Am I eligible?

These jobs are open to current Deakin students, with priority given to domestic and undergraduate students. Masters and international students are still welcome to apply for consideration.

Each job application explains what the project is about, expected timeline and any eligibility criteria. Most jobs have a deadline of Monday 19 February to apply.

In 2024, there are opportunities available to any course or discipline. There are some projects that specifically call for students from Education, Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Engineering, Psychology, Nursing and Midwifery.

All students are responsible for their rights to work in Australia, including how paid work may affect government benefits (e.g. Youth Allowance, Austudy). We reimburse students for obtaining the employee Working with Children Check.
