A group of mentors

11 January 2024

Become a Business and Law Mentor in 2024 and give back to your community!

Want to make more friends and give back to the Business and Law community in 2024? Apply now to become a Business and Law Peer Mentor.

We’d love you to join up—you just need to be a current Business and Law student who has successfully completed four units with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 60.

Why should I become a mentor?

Peer mentors play a very important role in helping new Business and Law students settle into life at Deakin. As a peer mentor, you’ll also:

These qualities will give you a highly competitive edge which employers are looking for.

Experienced mentor Sharon Chu describes mentorship as ‘a chance to share your experiences and truly make a difference for incoming students. You get to forge new friendships, participate in exciting events organized by the BL Mentor Program Team, and develop valuable skills throughout the journey’. Her favourite moment as a mentor has been ‘assisting new students during their transition to Deakin University. Being able to make a positive impact on their journey is incredibly fulfilling’.

What’s involved?

You will support a group of new students with another mentor in the first five weeks of Trimester 1. New mentors attend a training session to ensure they are equipped with the necessary information and it’s a great way to meet your peers. You can also join our social events—think free lunches and watching an AFL game.

Eligible students may also apply for the $700 Volunteer Mentor Support scheme.

Volunteer Mentor Awards

We celebrate each trimester with an awards ceremony to acknowledge our Outstanding Mentors who are nominated by their peers and program staff. All mentors also receive a Certificate of Recognition—great for your resume!
