Congratulations to Deakin’s 2023 Sport Awards winners!
The 2023 Deakin Sport Awards were held on Thursday 2 November 2023 at Deakin Downtown. As we celebrated the achievements of our elite-athlete students throughout the year, the evening was focused on acknowledging the admirable energy, teamwork and dedication our athletes brought to their chosen sports in 2023.
There have been so many outstanding sporting achievements by our elite student-athletes this year. Five students from the Elite Athlete Program represented Australia at the World University Games in Chengdu across a range of sports including Archery, Athletics, Diving and Rowing. Several students competed in World Cups and World Championships, and there were fantastic results at National Championships and national competitions throughout the year.
The Deakin Dragons had another strong year at the UniSport Nationals and UniSport National Championships, with results in individual sports and events including three gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals from Athletics, Snowboarding, Surfing, Taekwondo and Triathlon. The Deakin Dragons had more than 160 students representing the team at the UniSport Nationals, and there were also Deakin teams at most University Championships including 3×3 Basketball, Athletics, Snow sports, T20 Cricket, Distance Running, Triathlon and Indigenous Nationals, culminating in Deakin finishing 21st out of 43 universities in the 2023 UniSport Nationals Overall Champion Pennant Tally.
A highlight of the ceremony was also having our current student and Elite Athlete Program member Jo Weston, fresh from her recent Constellation Cup win with the Australian Diamonds netball squad, MCing the night.
Congratulations to all of our 2023 winners!
