How to prepare for your T2 end‑of-unit assessments
The Trimester 2, 2023 end-of-unit assessment (EoUA) period isn’t too far away – it will run from Monday 9 to Friday 20 October. Now’s the time to check your EoUA timetable in StudentConnect to see when your assessments are scheduled and confirm all your information is up to date.
What to expect
The EoUA period allows you to showcase your unit learning. This will occur either through:
- An unsupervised EoUA that will ask you to apply your knowledge in an authentic and inclusive task. This timed assessment will assess capabilities that you would be expected to perform in the workplace. There are several different types of EoUA.
- A supervised online exam, where you sit the exam using your own computer while being supervised via webcam and recorded by a system called Proctorio. Depending on the exam, you may be able to use some permitted resources. Supervised online exams are used for particular course requirements, including accreditation by external bodies.
Most EoUAs and exams will be delivered online through your CloudDeakin unit site. Certain law units require in-person supervision of computer-based exams. You can check your exam location in StudentConnect and read more on the School of Law exams webpage.
How to get ready
Our end-of-unit assessments and exams webpages outline all you need to know about rules and procedures, IT support and other essential information. In the lead-up to your EoUAs, you should also check your:
- Unit sites for details about your EoUA. Each unit will have different requirements, so review the information carefully and regularly, as some unit sites will have information added over the coming weeks.
- Deakin student email and unit site if you have an Access Plan through the Disability Resource Centre. Adjustments will be applied where relevant.
- Exam location details/time zone if you have an exam: in your EoUA timetable, your recorded ‘Current location’ must represent the time zone you’ll be in during exams. Most online exams will be time-limited and require you to start at the Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) listed in StudentConnect. If you need to set or change your location for time zone purposes, you can do so until Monday 25 September – no further changes will be possible after this date.
- Home IT space to ensure it’s well lit, comfortable, quiet and free from distractions, and to reduce the risk of any technical disruptions.

How special consideration works
Special consideration is intended to help you deal with short-term or unexpected setbacks like medical problems or other personal hardships. You’ll need to provide documentary evidence such as a medical certificate and/or statutory declaration – but conditions apply.
Technology issues during your assessment aren’t grounds for special consideration where the full allotment of time (assessment duration plus reading and technical support time) has been provided – unless they cannot be resolved in the time available for you to complete the task.
If you experience any technology issues, contact the IT Service Desk on 1800 463 888 as soon as you can. Support is available 8am–10pm, Monday to Friday and 9am–5pm, Saturday to Sunday (AEDT) during the entire EoUA period – although wait times may be longer than normal.
If your technical difficulties can’t be resolved during your assessment task, you must submit an IT Help support ticket and record your receipt number. You then have up to three working days after the due date of your EoUA or exam to apply for special consideration.
