International students, spring into fun with these September outings!

How are you feeling halfway through your first trimester at Deakin and in Australia? We hope you’re enjoying your studies – as well as getting out and about to see your adopted home!

We’re here to help with that! Happily, the weather is about to start warming up, so make sure you join our September outings for new international students, which are all about embracing Victoria’s beautiful outdoor and cultural spaces.

Run as part of our CONNECT program, everything is free and arranged for you. All you have to do is bring along a smile and get ready to make some new friends!

Royal Botanic Gardens and National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne

Spanning over 38 hectares, Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens boast a collection of more than 8,500 species of plants from around the world. This gorgeous haven in the heart of the city is a place to meet, explore, learn and socialise.

The National Gallery of Victoria – you’ll hear it called ‘the NGV’ – is Australia’s oldest and most visited art museum. Across two sites, it houses an incredible collection of international and Australian art.

In this awesome group outing, we’ll do a guided tour of the Botanic Gardens, followed by a picnic. You can then explore the NGV at your leisure!

Botanic Gardens and National Wool Museum, Geelong

Discover one of the region’s best-kept secrets! Located near Eastern Park and the Waterfront, the Botanic Gardens are home to an amazing plant collection, a renowned selection of trees and many original heritage features, including some of Geelong’s famous bollards!

Geelong is a city built on the wool industry. The National Wool Museum, located on the site of a wool store that opened in 1872, is a place to learn about both the history of the wool trade and the Indigenous culture of the area.

In this awesome group outing, we’ll do a guided tour of the Botanic Gardens, followed by a picnic at Eastern Beach. We’ll then explore the National Wool Museum!

There are so many great ways to CONNECT!

Our CONNECT program gives you lots of other opportunities, including free health checks, come-and-try sport sessions and wellbeing workshops. If this is your first trimester as an international student at Deakin, we encourage you to try as many activities as possible – you’ll make new friends, practise your English skills, explore your campus, discover Deakin’s support services and learn about Australian culture.
