Three students walking together at Geelong Waterfront precinct

18 August 2023

We’re moving for inclusion: join your Deakin community to raise disability funds for STEPtember!

Walking is such a simple way to stay fit and, during next month, it’s also a great way to show some solidarity and raise funds for people with cerebral palsy!

Every 20 hours, an Australian child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The annual STEPtember campaign is a fun challenge which encourages you to reach a daily goal of 10,000 steps – long considered a great benchmark for reaping optimal physical and mental benefits from walking – all in pursuit of raising much-needed funds towards research, services and assistive technology for people living with cerebral palsy.

Want to make a difference?

Join DeakinACTIVE and your University community as we move towards inclusion by signing up to Deakin’s STEPtember team! Once you register, you will be able to see other Deakin students and staff that are participating, see their step numbers and enjoy the sense of camaraderie!

When joining, you’ll also get to select your biggest motivator for participating and how you would like your fundraised money to be directed (you can see a range of initiatives on the official STEPtember website).

Then, once you’re on board, get those steps up from 1–30 September! Remember you can track your MOVES via the DeakinMOVES app

We’re taking serious steps towards inclusion

At Deakin, we’re always looking for ways to make university life inclusive and enjoyable for everyone in our community.

Whether you’re one of our students who manages a health condition or disability, or you’re keen to learn more about how to make our university community more inclusive, we encourage you to complete our new Belong at Deakin online module. It’s well worth your time (and will look great on your CV too!).
