17 August 2023

If you drive or take the bus to Waterfront campus, you’ll want to know about these big changes!

Construction of the Geelong Convention and Event Centre—or GCEC for short—at the Waterfront starts on Tuesday 22 August and from Monday 28 August onwards you will no longer be able to access parking on the GCEC site, which you may have known as the old Car Park 2. The on-street parking on the north side of Smythe Street around the GCEC site will also be removed.

But never fear, a temporary car park has been set up for you just across the road on Smythe Street. The fancy new Multideck Carpark will then offer permanent replacement parking from Trimester 1 2024.

You could also take this as an opportunity to consider the other transport options available to get to and from campus, including cycling, walking, public transport or the intercampus bus.

Student access to an assigned car park and DUSA Transport Assistance

DUSA is able to allocate students a car park at Westfield Geelong through their DUSA Waterfront Transport Assistance Program. Visit the DUSA site to find out more and apply, spaces are limited but not all places have been assigned.

And as a reminder, if you have trouble covering transport costs, DUSA also provides other support through their Transport Assistance Program to help you get to and from University.

Deakin Direct shuttle bus stop now on Gheringhap Street

Speaking of the bus, for you savvy commuters who use the free Deakin Direct shuttle bus service, a new bus stop location is now located on Gheringhap Street, just near the entrance to Costa Hall. The previous Smythe Steet stop will no longer be in use.

Helpful line markings and signs will point you in the right direction and you can view the Deakin Direct timetables.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s an aerial view of the Waterfront Campus car park area showing the changes.
