Three students jogging through Waurn Ponds Campus

1 August 2023

Winter is nearly behind us! Keep MOVEing this month with our new classes and casual sports

We’ve seen some unseasonably warm afternoons over the last couple of weeks which is hopefully putting a spring in your step! Now is the perfect time to get outside and ramp up your activity for the warmer months ahead – get MOVEing to generate some feel-good endorphins to benefit your mood and studies.

Choose your challenge

We have two great fitness challenges to join via the DeakinMOVES app this month. Compete against your friends and go in the draw to win some great prizes!

Download the DeakinMOVES app and join our monthly challenges today!

What is a MOVE?
A MOVE is a measurement of physical activity, calculated through your height, weight and predicted energy expenditure when completing an exercise. It’s a fantastic method for measuring activity relative to each individual (for example, five flights of stairs = 50 MOVEs; walking for 30 minutes = 200 MOVEs).

Our DeakinMOVES app tracks all of your movement, indoors and out. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get MOVEing! If you haven’t already done so, download the DeakinMOVES app today to get started.

Check out our revamped group fitness classes

We’ve refreshed our group fitness class schedules for Trimester 2 and now have even more sessions to choose from! With different kinds of classes on offer, there really is something for everyone. Choose from Boxing, Abs & Core, Yoga, HIIT, Strength, Pilates and more – you can check out the different group fitness class schedules at:

Working out is always so much more fun with a friend! Jump into a class or you can bring a friend with you to try out a new class together – first classes are free for new members (just speak to our friendly reception staff to organise a pass for your friend).

Join our DeakinPLAY social sports competitions

The season may have started but it’s not too late to join the fun! Free registration is still available and pro rata available for payments. Get your mates together, make up a team, or join DeakinPLAY as an individual (and we’ll add you into a team) for friendly social netball, basketball and badminton competitions.

Competitions are being offered at both Burwood and Waurn Ponds campuses and all ages and abilities are welcome! Visit the DeakinPLAY Social Sports Competitions webpage for more information or to register as a team or individual.

Got some free time on your hands? Just Rock Up & Play!

New to sport and not quite sure where to start? Come along to our Rock Up & Play sessions to try out some different sports or have a run around without the commitment. It’s a great way to meet new friends and enjoy sport in a fun and welcoming environment. All skill levels are welcome!

We offer a variety of different sports on a weekly basis at Burwood and Waurn Ponds. For details about what sport is being played and the meeting point each week, check out the Rock Up & Play webpage. See you there!
