Win a share of $5000 and boost your CV: be part of the Deakin Bowater Business Challenge
The Deakin Bowater Business Challenge (DBBC) is a competition for current undergraduate business and law students. It’s a great opportunity to develop your problem-solving skills, graduate employability and industry networks.
You might even take home some cash!
How it works
Working in a team of four, you’ll undertake research and present your findings on this year’s challenge: Fully Promoted Expansion Strategy: Customise or Standardise.
You can enter as a team or as an individual – we’ll allocate individuals to a team. Winning teams will be awarded cash prizes.
Timeline
- Monday 31 July: applications close.
- Wednesday 2 August: confirmation of teams.
- Friday 4 August: Zoom briefing session – Fully Promoted will outline the challenge and answer questions, while key academics will cover areas of focus such as marketing, economics and finance.
- Thursday 24 August: registered teams compete in the Preliminary Round, where a panel comprising Business & Law academics will judge each team’s 10-minute presentation and ask questions for five minutes. You won’t be permitted to hear presentations from competing teams.
- Friday 25 August: four finalist teams announced and assigned an academic mentor.
- Friday 1 September: site visit accompanied by academic mentors and staff where you’ll meet with Fully Promoted representatives to further understand the business issue.
- Thursday 14 September: Challenge Final at Burwood Corporate Centre delivered to judging panel and audience of students, Deakin staff and guests. The winning team will be announced on the night.
Why you should take part
2021 participant Ani Prakash, whose team won the competition and scored $2000, encourages all eligible students to enter:
‘My Business/Law Mentor told me that what you put into your university experience is exactly what you will get out of it. This has stuck with me ever since.
‘While I’m sure this isn’t the first time you heard about the importance of getting “real-world experience”, no one talks about how to get it. It can feel like the job market is a catch-22 where you need the experience to get a job, but you can’t get experience because you don’t have a job.
‘Well, if that sounds like the pickle you are in, then the DBBC is right up your alley.’
