Staff and students planting trees at Waurn Ponds Campus

21 June 2023

Calling all green thumbs! Join us for our annual tree-planting day at Waurn Ponds Campus

Our Waurn Ponds Campus is a pretty special place – and you can help us to preserve its natural beauty by taking part in our annual tree-planting day.

Trees are a great asset. They provide areas of shade, purify our air, help us combat climate change, generate a sense of place and provide important habitat for native animals. Over the years, students and staff have helped to revegetate this campus and transform it from cleared agricultural land to the environment we enjoy today.

Thanks to our partner Barwon Water, we have approximately 2,000 donated plants ready to be planted. These were bought from the Geelong Community nursery run by GenU, an organisation providing training and employment pathways for people with disability.

Come along to connect with nature, meet like-minded staff and students, and be part of the Deakin biodiversity mission.

Let’s get planting!

When: Tuesday 25 July, 8am to 1pm – stay for the whole session or for whatever time you can spare!
Where: Meet at the chapel and we’ll walk to the planting site on the slope near the tennis courts at Waurn Ponds Estate. If you come later, you’ll be able to see the planting group there. View campus map.

Bring gardening gloves, closed-toe shoes and a water bottle. Afterwards, enjoy a free lunch at Market Hall from 1.30pm (please detail any dietary requirements when you register).

Register by Tuesday 18 July.

We’d love to see you there!
