Your guide to T1 end-of-unit assessments: your home IT checklist and where to get help
The Trimester 1, 2023 end-of-unit assessment (EoUA) period is getting closer – it will run from Monday 5 to Friday 16 June. Make sure you understand the different types of assessment and check your EoUA timetable for your specific information.
With most EoUAs and exams delivered through your CloudDeakin unit site, now’s the time to ensure you understand how to complete your assessments from home.
Prepare your space and get your IT ready
Start setting up your space now to ensure it’s well lit, comfortable, quiet and free from distractions. To reduce the risk of any technical disruptions, here’s an IT checklist:
- Make sure your internet connection is stable and running at an adequate speed. Check again early on the day of your EoUA to avoid technical issues before or during your assessment.
- Use supported/preferred Web browsers – we recommend that you run a system check before you log in and update your browser if necessary.
- If you’re using a laptop, make sure it’s charged or connected to a power source before you begin.
- Depending on the requirements for your individual units, you may also need a functional webcam, speakers and/or microphone.
And during your assessment …
As you’re sitting your assessment, make sure you:
- Save your work regularly.
- Use an accepted file submission type: documents that are subject to Turnitin Originality reports need to be in one of the following formats: Word, PDF, PowerPoint or Excel (.doc, .docx, .pdf, .pptx or .xlsx). If you use alternative file types, your assessment task may not be able to be processed or marked. Maximum file size is 100MB for Turnitin Originality reports.
- Keep file names to under 30 characters and do NOT include special characters; for example: , : ; ~ / ! @ # $ % ^ & * + | ( ) { } [ ].
- Check your unit site or seek advice from your Unit Chair on the duration of your assessment and allow plenty of time to upload/submit.

Keep this information on hand throughout the EoUA period in case you experience any technical troubles and need to contact IT for assistance.
How special consideration works
Special consideration is intended to help you deal with short-term or unexpected setbacks like medical problems or other personal hardships. You’ll need to provide documentary evidence such as a medical certificate and/or statutory declaration – but conditions apply.
Technology issues during your assessment aren’t grounds for special consideration where the full allotment of time (assessment duration plus reading and technical support time) has been provided – unless they cannot be resolved in the time available for you to complete the task.
If you experience any technology issues, contact the IT Service Desk on 1800 463 888 as soon as you can. Support is available 8am–10pm, Monday to Friday and 9am–5pm, Saturday to Sunday (AEST) during the entire EoUA period – although please note that you may experience longer than normal wait times.
If your technical difficulties can’t be resolved during your assessment task, you must submit an IT Help support ticket and record your receipt number. You then have up to three working days after the due date of your EoUA or exam to apply for special consideration.
