Apply for the 2023 Victorian International Education Awards – you could win up to $6000!
Our international students are an amazing part of both Deakin and the wider community. And it’s time to celebrate your achievements!
The Victorian International Student Awards 2023, presented by the Victorian Government through Study Melbourne, recognise Victoria’s most outstanding international post-secondary students in the areas of community contribution, academic performance and leadership.
If you’re proud of your achievements while studying at Deakin, we encourage you to apply now.
What are the student categories?
You can apply for any of the following awards:
- International Student of the Year – English Language Training
- International Student of the Year – Higher Education
- International Student of the Year – Research
- International Student of the Year – Regional
- International Student of the Year – Vocational Education and Training (VET)
- International Alumnus of the Year.
Domestic students can also apply for the Victorian Student of the Year – Internationalisation award, which recognises students who have supported their international peers to engage with the broader Victorian community.
Find out the assessment criteria for each award, and read the full terms and conditions.
What are the prizes?
Award-winners in each of the above categories (except for the International Alumnus of the Year) will receive $6,000. Up to two runners-up per category will receive $2,000 each.
All finalists and winners will receive a certificate of recognition.
The Premier’s Award – International Student of the Year recognises the most outstanding candidate for this year. The winner of this award will receive an additional $10,000 for their studies. Nominees for other awards will automatically be considered as candidates for the Premier’s Award, so you don’t need to apply for this category.
Why should I apply?
Applying for these kinds of awards helps you to outline your academic and extra-curricular achievements, and can expand your professional and social networks. Being a finalist or winner will look amazing on your CV!
But who can explain why you should enter better than one of Deakin’s past winners? Graduate and occupational therapist Luocheng (Rod) Zhang, who is originally from China, won the International Student of the Year – Regional award at the 2019 VIEAs:
The VIEA can help you stand out, as it is a tremendous recognition of your academic achievements, leadership skills and contribution to local as well as global communities. Whether you win an award or not, the application itself is a valuable experience and a deep self-reflection of your study journey in Victoria as an international student.
How do I enter?
- Visit the VIEA website to register online and apply. You can submit one entry per category. You’ll need to supply a written submission, referee details and a photograph.
- Entries close at 11.59pm on Monday 5 June.
- If you have any questions, just email [email protected].
