Deakin shuttle bus on Waurn Ponds Campus

7 March 2023

Stress-free ways to get to our Geelong campuses

One of the benefits of studying in Geelong is the option for an easier commute. Forget city traffic and soaring petrol prices – our two beautiful campuses are easily accessible by public transport or Deakin’s intercampus bus service. You can even head to class by bike or foot.

There’s so many benefits to ditching the car! With living expenses at an all-time high, the money you’ll save will be welcome. You’ll enjoy more incidental physical activity and have extra time to read, listen to music or just unwind. Plus, you won’t have to hunt for a carpark and will feel a warm glow from knowing that you’re helping to make our campuses more sustainable.

If you’re studying at Waterfront Campus this trimester, you need to know that Car Park 3 is now closed, and Car Park 2 will be extremely limited from 20 March onwards.

Public transport

Both our Geelong campuses are conveniently located near train or bus stops. Check out Public Transport Victoria (PTV) for more information and to plan your journey.

Geelong intercampus buses

Two dedicated Deakin buses service our Geelong campuses – and they’re completely free!

Wi-fi is available on both services, so you can scroll your news feed or study while you travel!

Active transport

Our beautifully green campuses are best experienced on foot or two wheels, so give active transport a go if you live reasonably close to campus. Showers, change rooms, lockers, and bike hubs are available on all campuses to support your active commute. You can even take a Lime e-bike for a spin! They shorten journey times and are a flexible way of getting to campus.

Still need to drive?

If these other transport options don’t suit your circumstances, there’s paid permit parking available at both Waterfront (extremely limited) and Waurn Ponds, including accessible parking. There’s also free parking at Waurn Ponds in the Park and Go bays in Car Park 3, which connect to the intercampus bus.

You could share the costs and hassle of driving by carpooling to campus – it’s super easy with the Liftango app, which matches drivers and passengers who share similar journeys to and from Deakin. It’s free to join, and you’ll be rewarded with an easier commute and free parking on our campuses (including in Orange bays).

DUSA | Transport Assistance service is also available to assist students experiencing financial hardship to get to campus.

See you soon!
