Help inspire the next generation of uni students: become a DEAP Mentor

Do you believe that everyone should have the chance to attend university? We’re looking for students to become mentors to young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds as part of the Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP).

The program aims to give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the skills and opportunity to study at university. As part of this program, we employ DEAP Mentors to work with young people and deliver outreach activities, including online, on-campus and off-campus workshops, tours and training.

These are casual paid positions open to all students currently enrolled at Deakin.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll be a good communicator who works well in a team and is willing to present activities to a group. You have a genuine interest in working with young people from diverse backgrounds and have some understanding of the barriers that can prevent them from accessing university.

You need to be able to communicate effectively with secondary school staff and students, and other educational institutions external to Deakin.

You’ll also have a Current Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one.

Why you should apply

Becoming a DEAP Mentor will support your study goals, enhance your uni experience and help develop your future career. You’ll receive access to workshops and training, including engaging an audience, public speaking and inclusive workshop development.

You’ll also become part of a connected community of like-minded Deakin students called the MoD Squad!
