Studying nursing or midwifery in 2023? Get your vaccinations on campus!
If you’re studying nursing or midwifery in Trimester 1, it’s mandatory to be vaccinated as part of your course.
You can be vaccinated on campus at a Deakin Medical Centre.
Before you can be vaccinated, you’ll need to have an initial appointment with a doctor to review your vaccine requirements and organise blood tests. All students need to have a hard copy of ALL previous vaccinations including childhood, schooling, and any travel vaccination PRIOR to attending your doctor’s appointment.
When do I need to be vaccinated by?
For T1, you must be vaccinated by Friday 24 February, so book an appointment now to make sure you meet the deadline.
All School of Nursing and Midwifery students must also have the seasonal flu vaccination each year. We’ll have more information about timing and availability of 2023 flu vaccinations in the coming months, so stay tuned.
How much will it cost?
At Deakin Medical Centres, GP consultations are bulk-billed to Medicare or covered by your Overseas Student Health Cover. You’ll have to pay for commercial blood tests such as the Quantiferon Gold test, but this is offered at a reduced student price.
You’ll also need to pay for the vaccines on the day of receiving them. Most vaccines are available at Deakin Medical Centres at a reasonable price for students.
You must download the School of Nursing and Midwifery Vaccination and Blood Test Checklist and bring it to your appointment – bring this form to all your medical appointments otherwise there may be a delay in completion of your vaccination checklist.
