Have you achieved excellent academic results in your course in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) to date? We encourage you to apply to become a SEBE peer mentor in Trimester 1!
Why should I become a SEBE peer mentor?
Peer mentors play a very important role in helping new SEBE students settle into life at Deakin. By taking part as a peer mentor, you will also:
- extend your skillsets in communication, cultural awareness, creative problem solving and influencing others
- develop leadership experience
- develop workplace-ready skills and behaviours
- extend your professional and social network
- build up confidence in yourself
- receive professional development.
These are some of the qualities that will give you a highly competitive edge when applying for your first job after you graduate.
What is involved if I become a peer mentor?
You will spend at least two hours per week in the first five–six weeks of Trimester 1, 2023, to participate in the Peer Support Network Program. You will also:
- mentor newly commencing students
- assist with events that foster engagement with the faculty and wider University community
- attend a half-day training session at Deakin Downtown on one of these dates:
- Monday 13 February 2023
- Thursday 14 February 2023
- Friday 17 February 2023.
