See Deakin students compete in the Hockey One finals this weekend!
The Hockey One season is coming to a close this weekend in Bendigo, so come support your fellow Deakin students who will be competing in the finals!
Students Emily Hamilton-Smith and Krissy Bates will be competing for the Hockey Club Melbourne Women’s team after finishing top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season. Bates, formerly a Hockeyroo (2017–2019) and part of the Jillaroos Program Australian U21, is a force to be reckoned with on the field. Hamilton-Smith is also an exciting emerging talent, having made her Hockey One debut this year and recently being selected in the Jillaroos Under 21 team.
The Hockey Melbourne Club Women’s team should be feeling highly confident coming into the weekend, having won five of six matches. Deakin alum Madi Ratcliffe will also be playing, further bolstering the strong line-up – the former Hockeyroo and junior star scored four goals in the last game of the season against the Tassie Tigers.
The Hockey Club Melbourne Men’s team, featuring Deakin students Craig Marais and Max Hendry, will unfortunately not be playing in the finals after hitting their stride late in the season. Marais has had a wonderful year representing Australia in the Burra’s Under 21 team, who recently reached the final in the Sultan of Johor Cup. Hendry has also had a great year, winning the Victorian Premier League with Camberwell and playing midfield alongside Marais. A highlight for the men’s team was their last game in which they defeated the Tassie Tigers, with Hendry passing the ball to Marais to score a goal.
The Hockey One Finals series is being played at Bendigo Regional Hockey Complex on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November 2022. Get your tickets now!
