Liftango makes travelling to campus easier, cheaper and more sustainable
Want to save money travelling to uni and meet new people at your campus? All students and staff can sign up to Liftango – Deakin’s free and easy way to carpool.
How does Liftango work?
Once you’ve downloaded the free app and signed up with your Deakin email, Liftango will match you with other Deakin travellers who have similar commute times and locations. You can then use the app to help you organise your carpool trip to campus.
When you use it to share the ride to campus, you can park in any orange or white bay for free (remember you will still need to start a parking session with CellOPark)!
Why should I try carpooling?
- Liftango makes sharing a trip to campus easy. It finds you the best match based on commute time and location, helps you to organise your carpool trip, and rewards you for choosing a more sustainable way to travel. You can use Liftango every day, or just on the days that are convenient.
- Safety is a priority. This is why the Liftango app is exclusively for use by people in the Deakin network, using only Deakin emails to sign up. When you view a potential driver or passenger on the app, you will see key pieces of information including their profile picture and phone number. You do not need to accept a ride if you do not feel safe.
- You’ll be helping the environment. Did you know 25% of Victoria’s emissions come from the transport sector, with the majority of these the result of passenger vehicles? Sharing your ride to campus – even a few times – makes a difference.
Sounds good! How do I sign up?
Liftango is very easy to use. Here’s how you can get started.
- Download Liftango from the App Store or Google Play.
- Register an account using your Deakin email address and sign in to create a profile.
- Download and register for CellOPark (the casual parking permit app).
- You are now ready to carpool! Liftango will let you know the best fit for your unique trip needs.
- Both the rider and driver have the opportunity to accept the person with who they are matched. Once you accept the match, the app will let the driver know where to pick you up and as the driver approaches, the app will let you know they are almost there.
- Drive at least two kilometres to campus and park in any orange or white bay. You will need to use CellOPark to pay for parking. Select zone 1040600 – Carpool Only.
