Celebrating spring with food and fun!
The warmer weather brings with it so many wonderful opportunities for our international students to experience Victoria’s incredible produce and outdoor activities. Here’s some of the September action!
Cooking up a storm at Waurn Ponds Estate
To celebrate spring, cooking and sustainability, a group of students was taken behind the scenes of function venue Waurn Ponds Estate, including the kitchen, gardens and composting system.
Executive Chef Adam Draper led a cooking class, making a simple stir fry using common ingredients and entire vegetables to avoid food waste. Even better, the students then got to taste the stir fry and other dishes made from locally grown produce.
Batting like a pro with DeakinACTIVE
Cricket is an integral part of the Australian summer! The team from DeakinACTIVE took a group of international students through their paces at a Come & Try Cricket session. Students tried bowling, fielding and batting, and learnt more about the techniques and strategies involved in this globally popular sport.
DeakinACTIVE runs Come & Try sessions for a range of sports – see what’s available on your campus.
Getting to know Burwood Campus
A group of Burwood international students enjoyed fun ‘get to know you’ activities and a social lunch at the winter garden, an amazing space on level 5 of Building LC with incredible views across campus.
Students then explored the Deakin Community Garden – a great space to visit, socialise and discover your green thumb!
