2023 University elections: here’s who you elected as your student representatives

The recent Deakin University elections have now come to a close – thank you to all who nominated and voted!

We are now pleased to declare the following students have been elected as student members of University Council and Boards for 2023.

Deakin University Council Election

As a result of the poll held from 1 to 5 August 2022, Jonathan de la Pena has been elected as the student member on the Deakin University Council for a term of office from 1 January to 31 December 2023.

Academic Board Election

As a result of the recent poll held from 5 to 9 September 2022, Jay Varma has been elected as the postgraduate coursework student on the Academic Board for a two-year term of office from 1 January 2023 until 31 December 2024. Jay joins existing student members of the Academic Board, Teagan Mitchell, undergraduate student member, and Muhsin Kizhisseri, higher degree by research student member (both with terms of office from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2023).

Faculty Board Elections

The following student representatives have been elected for a two-year term within their respective Faculty Boards, commencing 1 January 2023.

Student participation in University decision-making is a vital ingredient of Deakin’s culture. We welcome the contributions the newly-elected students will make to the University Council and Boards. Congratulations to our new student members!
