Amazing August adventures!

Our international students continue to enjoy a range of fantastic cultural experiences that showcase so much of what Victoria has to offer. Here’s some of the August highlights.

Lunch at Acre, Burwood

A large group of international students from our Burwood Campus enjoyed an afternoon of tasty food and produce. Led by wonderful Orientation Ambassadors Tamnanna and Akie, students enjoyed getting to know one another during the fun icebreaker activities.

First up was a tour of the Deakin Community Garden, an amazing area where students can enjoy learning about and harvesting the seasonal produce grown in these beautiful gardens.

The next stop was Acre at Brickworks in Burwood – the largest urban agricultural farmhouse in Australia. Students were treated to a tour of the farmhouse followed by a delicious light lunch made from produce grown in the farmhouse. This included roasted eggplant, tahini, crispy chickpeas, herb salad, semolina dumplings and the favourite for most students – the croquettes!

Everyone enjoyed getting to know other students and discovering what the local area around the Burwood Campus has to offer.

Geelong Scavenger Hunt

International students from Geelong took part in an exciting Scavenger Hunt around the beautiful Waterfront. They started at the iconic Carousel, where they were given their first riddle to solve, leading them to their next clue.

Further riddles took the students to local landmarks like the Geelong Sailing club, Eastern Beach, the Botanical Gardens and even a lifesize drawing of Beyoncé and Jay Z!

Narana Cultural Experience

Geelong students were introduced to Indigenous history and culture at the Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Our guide Anthony shared traditional Aboriginal history, tools, music, food and connection to Country. Students enjoyed throwing a boomerang and walking through the beautiful native garden, where they got up close with some inquisitive native animals!
