We’ve recently updated our wi‑fi: here’s what to do if you have any problems

You probably use Deakin’s wi-fi network – called eduroam – whenever you come to campus.

To keep our eduroam wireless network secure, we make yearly updates to the ‘certificate’. A certificate is part of the complicated techy process that happens behind the scenes whenever a device connects to eduroam.

On Saturday 30 July, we swapped certificate providers (like changing phone providers – say, from Telstra to Optus). Following this change, you might see a pop-up on your device when you try to use eduroam next.

Depending on your device, you may be asked to ‘accept’ or ‘trust’ the new certificate to stay connected to eduroam.

What you need to do

This pop-up may appear if you’re using a Windows device

eduroam pop-up with the text: Continue connecting? If you expect to find eduroam in this location, go ahead and connect. Otherwise, it may be a different newtwork with the same name. Show certificate details.

Just press ‘connect’ and restart if prompted.

If you’re using an Apple device, you may see the following:

Just press ‘trust’ and then restart or, if prompted, also press ‘continue’ and ‘update settings’.

With so many different devices out there, you may also need to reconfigure your internet connection or delete your old profile – just follow these step-by-step connection instructions or see our wi-fi troubleshooting guide.

Never fear – help is available!

If you’ve tried all of the above steps and still can’t connect to eduroam when you’re on campus, just contact the IT Service Desk for personalised support.
