Challenge yourself this Mind Matters week and you could win an Apple Watch worth $749!

You may have heard of the ‘tiny houses’ movement, but what about tiny habits? Developed by a researcher of human behaviour at Stanford University, this method encourages you to make small lifestyle and wellbeing changes that lead to lasting improvements.

The theory is that small behaviour changes are easier to implement and translate into positive changes that are actually sustainable.

Sounds interesting, right? To learn more, listen to the Tiny Habits podcast – it’s available in the DeakinWELLBEING app under Habits > Building Healthy Habits.

Will you take our Mind Matters tiny habits challenge?

**Congratulations to Hillary Tsang, winner of the Apple Watch.**

At Deakin, we want to talk about mental health and inspire everyone in our community to put their wellbeing front and centre. So, this Mind Matters week, we’re encouraging you to put the tiny habits theory into practice with our tiny habits challenge! We’re not asking you to run 10 kilometres a day, or to meditate for 20 minutes – instead, you just need to complete five small daily habits over five consecutive days.

These habits fall under the five ways to wellbeing – Connecting. Being active. Taking notice. Keep learning. Giving – and they can be as small as practising one minute of mindfulness or doing one push-up each day.

Yes, it’s starting small – but this helps to build lasting habits that put you in control of your own wellbeing. Scheduling these into your daily routine and actively completing them will help you to feel more positive, happy and healthy.

If you ever feel like doing more on a certain day, then go for it! But the important thing is not to push yourself so that these changes become unachievable or unsustainable.
